The Environmental Leadership Scholarship provides financial support to a graduating senior student at Jonathan Dayton High School (JDHS) who has demonstrated interest, leadership and accomplishments in environmental sustainability at school and/or in the community to assist and encourage the student's higher education, experiences, and career opportunities in an environmental sustainability-related field.
“Environmental sustainability” encompasses many inter-related topics across a broad range of disciplines: resource conservation, wildlife conservation, climate, pollution abatement and prevention, energy generation and efficiency, air and water protection, human health, environmental law and justice, ecology, animal rights, food and agriculture, and human population control, among others.
"Leadership" means creating and executing ideas, initiating and completing actions, and inspiring and supporting others, either in the private or public sectors or on a local, regional, national or international level.
In addition to providing financial support for the student's education, the External Scholarship Committee members are available to provide ongoing mentorship for each awardee through his/her college or advanced education and career to enhance educational and work opportunities, experiences and success.
