This merit-based Scholarship awards US$10,000  (ten thousand dollars) toward higher educational expenses and provides ongoing mentorship to one Jonathan Dayton High School (Springfield, Union Co., New Jersey)  graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership activities, academic interest, and career interest in environmental sustainability.

The Scholarship (commencing in 2027) is sponsored by Jim Craner, MD, MPH (JDHS Class of 1980), whose interests, motivation, professional career achievements in occupational and environmental medicine, and personal passion for and commitment to environmental sustainability began and were inspired by his opportunities, activities and the support he received as a JDHS student.   

As a way of giving back and showing his appreciation to his teachers, the school and the Springfield, NJ community who supported and encouraged him, Dr. Craner — with the input and involvement of the Scholarship Committee comprised of external volunteers and teachers and advisors — assists students who are interested in pursuing their own course along a similar pathway.
